Summary: If you die, one can only hope that you are able to make amends for whatever vices are keeping you from the ideal Afterlife. Well, fear not, because there's an opportunity for you! You just have to enlist in a secret service run by ghosts to take down ghosts. Simple, right?

History: For time immemorial, there has been an organization of spirits that specialize in taking down ones that wish to cause havoc for the mortal world. It is known as the Rest In Peace Department, and its staff work there for about a century to work off all the excess sin. Their targets are the Dead-os, who now seek to piece together the Spear of Jericho in order to allow all spirits to come back from the dead and take over the world for real.

Notable Kills: Nothing special.

Final Fate: The mastermind of the operation, the sociopathic Bobby Hayes, is defeated when his old partner, along with a literal cowboy cop, destroys the thing disrupting the Afterlife and shoots him in the head. The Dead-os are brought to justice, and the R.I.P.D. keeps working.

Powers/Abilities: Dead-os typically rot the environment around them, especially when they unveil their true forms. But before that, they can take on more regular forms to trick mortals.

Weakness: Certain spices, particularly cumin, cause the disguises to malfunction and reveal what the Dead-os really look like. They can also be killed with a shot to the head from special bullets.

Scariness Factor: 3-'Dead-o' is, in all honesty, a really bad name. It just sounds so childish and stupid. As for the spirits themselves, some have cool and sometimes frightening designs, but an overabundance on not-quite-up-to-snuff CGI and how easily they are killed by the R.I.P.D. brings it down a bit. That's not to say they aren't dangerous, mind you.

Trivia: -This film was based off a comic book of the same name published by Dark Horse Comics.

-Roy's actor, Jeff Bridges, claims that there were more, better ideas for this film, but executive meddling cast them to the wayside. Then again, he had other reasons to be dissatisfied with this film, as it was one of the highest-budgeted films to be not screened for critics, and its poor reception nearly offed Ryan Reynolds' career more than "Green Lantern" did.
